For those interested in Czech glass and its production, we add two interesting tips for a visit or excursion in two well-known local companies, AJETO and PAČINEK.
The AJETO Glassworks is in Lindava near Nový Bor, the traditional hub of Bohemian glass production. Over the years, the manufacture has also become a place that brings together Czech and foreign glassmakers, artists, designers, architects, and filmmakers.
Since 2011, it has been also the proud producer of trophies for the world-renown Tour de France bicycle race.
Excursions in the AJETO glass factory take place from Monday to Friday at 10:00, 11:00, and 12:00 in the morning during production when it is possible to see the workshops and all the glass workers at work. In exceptional cases, afternoon tours can be arranged, but it is necessary to consider that the glass workers finish work at 1:50 p.m. After that, it is possible to have an individual visit. but there will be no production to be seen.
Glassmaker’s Tavern AJETO / Lindava/ offers the best experience of traditional Czech cuisine, carefully prepared, and made of the best local ingredients. Open daily 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. and apart from the Czech cuisine it offers also the unique “Glassmaker’s AJETO 8°” beer on tap, which the Born brewery in Nový Bor brews exclusively for its customers. There is also a small furnace in the pub, where you can not only watch the work of glassmakers but also try to hand-blow some glass yourselves. Plus, there is a small shop for Ajeto souvenirhand-blown glass.
Excursions and reservations are handled by Jana Sedláková, M: +420 606 622 396, E: jana.sedlakova@ajetoglass.com.
The PAČINEK glassworks is located in Kunratice near Cvikov, where you can see the glassworks with working glassmakers (daily 09.00 am – 02.00 pm), the unique art project Crystal Temple (daily 09.00 am – 05.00 pm) and the Glass Garden, which is open 24/7.
